Is it good for the dog to switch diet?

I am feeding my American pitbull terrier with Beef pro puppy ever since (2 and a half months old). I don’t know other alternatives yet. Is there any dog foods out there you think has good amounts of protein and very healthy? Maybe there are better alternatives, or do you think I’ll just stick to the current diet?
I’m really hoping your suggestions aren’t expensive ones.^_^

I don’t know of any brands that are better than what you have that are cheap.

But if you do find something, just make sure to transition him slowly to his new diet. Mix a little bit at a time with his current food until he’s able to eat it. Start with 1/4 new, 3/4 old, then 50-50, etc.

I want to convince my parents to let my have a dog. I want to make a packet of information of dog breeds, dog nutrition, etc. What do you think I should include in this packet? What other topics? (Websites accepted)

Is your family dog experienced or will this be your first pet?

You can always check out the American Kennel Club’s website for starters. Also check out your local ASPCA’s website. If you parents do allow you to get a dog, this would be a great place to check for dogs in need of homes. A young adult dog might be a good start for your family, as they are already past the less than pleasant parts of puppyhood like housebreaking and chewing, are often already neutered, and will fight right into a new home.

You will also want to understand what puppy mills are, and what to look out for to make sure that you and your parents do NOT purchase an unhealthy puppy from an irresponsible breeder.

15 Year Old Border Collie Eats Salmon Head (Raw Meaty Bones)

This almost 10 minute long video shows the last 10 minutes of my 15 year old Border Collie Sweety polishing off a Salmon head. 30 minutes of having to work for her food! Great nutrition, great exercise and fantastic teeth can gum cleaning is imparted by having to work her way through her fish head.

Notice the cutting and hear the crunching and tell me if you think a bowl full of dead dry kibble or ground up BARF that is wolfed down in a minute or two, could possibly even come close to being able to keep teeth clean and healthy.

Healthy dogs eat a diet as close as possible to Nature’s model, which ideally means eating the whole carcasses of other animals, or second best, eating raw meaty bones and offal.

NOTE: Salmon and trout in the Pacific Northwest can carry a bacteria that can cause Salmon Poisoning and can be deadly to dogs. As per the FDA’s recommendations, freezing Salmon for at least 14 days will kill the bacteria that can cause Salmon Poisoning.

Further to the note above, it’s interesting that some wolf packs in the PNW when fishing for Salmon during a spawning run, will actually eat the heads and the tails of the Salmon, leaving what we would call, “the good parts”. Maybe they know about Salmon Poisoning?

Is the raw dog food diet better than dog kibble?

I have a 8yr old chocolate lab. He’s overweight by probally 2 pounds and has bad yeast infections in both of his ears.He plays ball and walks outside for about 20 mins a day. We put medicine in his ears about twice a week and have even tried feeding him yogurt but nothing helps. I heard that the raw food diet is more natural for the dogs and will solve all his problems in time…fact or fiction?

I think so, as it’s what dogs were MEANT to eat.

Raw feeding won’t solve *all* his problems, but it will greatly help with many & I’m guessing it will help with the yeast infections.
