I am feeding my American pitbull terrier with Beef pro puppy ever since (2 and a half months old). I don’t know other alternatives yet. Is there any dog foods out there you think has good amounts of protein and very healthy? Maybe there are better alternatives, or do you think I’ll just stick to the current diet?
I’m really hoping your suggestions aren’t expensive ones.^_^

I don’t know of any brands that are better than what you have that are cheap.

But if you do find something, just make sure to transition him slowly to his new diet. Mix a little bit at a time with his current food until he’s able to eat it. Start with 1/4 new, 3/4 old, then 50-50, etc.

I have a 8yr old chocolate lab. He’s overweight by probally 2 pounds and has bad yeast infections in both of his ears.He plays ball and walks outside for about 20 mins a day. We put medicine in his ears about twice a week and have even tried feeding him yogurt but nothing helps. I heard that the raw food diet is more natural for the dogs and will solve all his problems in time…fact or fiction?

I think so, as it’s what dogs were MEANT to eat.

Raw feeding won’t solve *all* his problems, but it will greatly help with many & I’m guessing it will help with the yeast infections.

I started my dog on a raw diet when he was 8 years old, too. He did just fine & is now 10 years old, still on the raw diet, and THRIVING. His coat is excellent, too. http://rawfeedingtips.yolasite.com/

Starred for my raw feeding contacts, hopefully they can answer you too.

I keep hearing so many stories, both good and bad about a raw diet for my dog. I am just wondering if anyone actually does feed there dog raw meat and if so what are to pro’s and con’s??? Has anyone ever gotten sick from feeding it to thier dog?

I feed a raw diet, I’ve done so for 10 years. The parasite the gentleman brought up is usually found in bear meat and sometimes in low quality pork. I don’t even know where to find bear meat and I usually steer clear of pork. A raw diet is the best diet to feed a dog, period. They’ve evolved over thousands of years to eat raw meat they’re whole digestive system is designed to kill germs and efficiently break down animal protiens. Lion keepers at the zoo don’t feed their lions kibble with grains and vegetables. Wolf keepers don’t feed wolves kibble either. They’re carnivores, just like dogs, common sense says if you want to keep a carnivore in captivity or as a pet that you should feed it raw meat, organ, and bone! Dogs haven’t evolved into omnivores as bears and humans have (yet anyway). Their short digestive tracts mean they can’t even benefit from the nutrients in plant matter because plant matter is harder to break down and requires a longer digestive tract (and teeth that can grind them into pulp, not large scissor like molars like dogs have which just cut them into smaller chunks). To answer the second part of your question: If you get sick from feeding your dog raw you don’t have good hygeine skills! Most people touch raw meat every day in their own kitchen, if you are the type to not wash your hands after handling raw meat to feed your dog/s, you probably don’t wash them making your own food so you’ll probably end up sick anyway…I use latex gloves and an anti-bacterial handsoap and I’ve yet to have a problem…I feed every dog I own including my little chihuahua/jack russ. mix a raw diet with 0 veggies, and 0 grains. The only supplements I use are salmon oil for omega 3′s and a multivitamin once a week to pick up any slack I’ve left in the diet. If you’re interested in feeding raw feel free to e-mail me and I’ll help you the best I can, good luck, and I hope I helped!

can anybody tell me what is a labrador eat, how much a male labra. eat and how many time in a day he require food ?

Can anyone suggest me any dog seller in Indore (India) who provide me a original bride of labrador.

Labradors are greedy dogs on the whole and it is more difficult to stop them from eating than not eating. It is important to give them a balanced diet with plenty of calcium until they have finished growing, which can be up until there are two in the case of a big male. It is recommended that you buy a good quality dog food, and you will find that most Pet Stores do a feed to suit your dog from birth to old age. Beware, some cheaper foods in the supermarkets can cause digestive upsets. If you are going to make up your own feed they need 30% meat to 70% cereals with a good vitamin .mineral mix, 2% of this should be a calcium supplement of some kind. It is very important that they get enough calcium in their diet, Labradors have a massive bone structure and need plenty of calcium during their growth period. Labradors are prone to worms and the runs because of their greedy nature. Make sure you follow a regular worming pattern with them and watch carefully for any signs of infestation. Fleas will also give them worms, so de-flea regularly. It can also be helpful to give them live yoghurt if they have a stomach upset or the runs. If you want to feed tins, you will also have to give a good mixer or puppy biscuit for their teeth.

Other foods that are appealing are vegetables, such as carrots, broccoli and cauliflower, rice & pasta, wholemeal bread, croquettes and meat.

I’ve been feeding my dog Science Diet, because that’s what she was being fed at the SPCA-where I adopted her. I assumed that the SPCA would feed dogs the healthiest brand. I just got another puppy who has been fed Eukenuba up until this point. And I know that their both good brands which arn’t contaminated with that crazy rat poisen. But, I want to pick the best one. Which would you say is the healthiest brand?

Neither one is that good, They are both full of fillers. The below website tells you how to pick a good food (grade it) and has several already graded brands. Science diet got an F.

I am thinking about switching my cat & dog to a vegan diet. Please let me know your experiences with this, if you have done the same. This is not an invite to bash me for my freedom of choice.
I am not asking for opinions, I am asking for experiences.
I want to tell everyone thank you for all of your info, most of it was helpful.

Cats are obligate carnivores – they *must* have meat to survive – that is their only source of taurine, an essential amino acid. If you force your cat to eat a vegetarian diet, you will be slowly killing it.

Dogs can survive on a vegetarian diet, but they don’t thrive.

You don’t want anyone to force their opinions on you – great. Why are you forcing your belief system on your animals?

I’ve be transitioning to Primal Dog Food patties. So far there have been no problems but I’m not convinced that raw is the right diet.

when I fed raw, it was at home raw, not commercial raw. But I never had a problem, and i’ve never heard of anyone i know that feeds either having a problem. Raw’s always been the best to go, even though vets love to say otherwise. Mostly because they don’t trust people to do it right. That and they get loads of kickbacks from the dog food companies to fund their businesses and schools.

Instead of using chemical-based flea products, I prefer to try to repel fleas and control them on my dog naturally. That said, what diet would you recommend for a 1-year-old dog? I need a diet that will help keep the fleas off him.

The only thing that is going to take care of fleas are the products they sell through your Vet.
Garlic is toxic to dogs. None of the over the counter products are effective or particularly safe. The products sold through your vet have been thoroughly tested for safety and they are very effective.

I know dogs are omnivores, can they get all their nutrition from a vegan diet?

Dogs are not omnivores. They can eat things besides meat, but they are actually carnivores. Wolves are the closest relative to a dog and they are carnivores.

That’s odd — I had just come onto the computer to find your question. I was really interested in the possible thyroid connection as well.

If you would like to email me then I will send you some stuff on raw. Do lots of study first as once changed over then they don’t take to going back to kibble very easily. This is all to do with the environment of the stomach and the ph balance. A dogs natural ph balance is designed to take and digest raw food. We alter a dogs ph balance by feeding kibble which it adjusts to, but doesn’t like to go back to once fed raw.

However, I have only on rare occasions known of anyone feeding raw that wants to go back.

We have lots of raw diet outlets here in the UK including complete packages from AMP and www.naturalinstincts.com to going to the butchers and sourcing everything yourself. That way is incredibly cheap and will cost very little to feed a JR.

Have a read of these in the meantime, and email me if you wish other stuff to read as I have some interesting stuff written by a friend.

Still recommend you check out the thyroid situation first.

Add on – Crystal – It really isn’t quite pricey to feed raw. Quite the opposite. A butcher will give you loads of stuff for nothing and loads more for very little.
It costs me approx. £1.25 for each of my rotties.
